I am a regular viewer of the Rachel Maddow show; also, I am a Canadian.
In Canada, we have multiple serious outbreaks of COVID 19 in nursing homes, and the mortality in these homes, due to this virus, is extremely high.
When nursing homes are privately owned, and therefore “for profit” businesses, the bottom line is profit; I believe there is no place for profit making in a healthcare service that provides care for our loved ones.
The municipally run homes are only slightly better.
I am writing tonight, because Rachel was talking about giving nursing homes “a break “ during this crisis; I disagree with this. The COVID 19 pandemic has shone a light on long term care and how these businesses routinely fail to provide even adequate care.
When this pandemic is defeated, the Canadian and the American societies would be well served to look at how long term care is delivered in our countries, and to change the care models to ensure that our elderly: citizens, tax payers and loved ones receive the care they deserve!
