This is a very dark movie. Henry is on parole after being released from prison. All he wants to do is play Rockabilly music and write music which he hopes to sell. His wife and daughter show up unexpectedly and he is so surprised he shakes her hand, no kisses and hardly notices his girl. Henry was found outside a courthouse as a sm. boy A old woman in town hears about the boy and wants him. She is rich so the sheriff and judge let her keep Henry. Bad mistake! She is physically and mentally abusive to the boy., so much that the neighbors reminisce how the screams of Henry being beaten drifted into their homes. They seemed uneasy about the situation, but, they and the sheriff and judge do nothing. So as a man, Henry is weak, a shell of a man who cannot accept love from his wife and has no clue how to live a normal, productive life. It ends w/his wife leaving and him back to prison

Lauren is married to Martin o Cape Cod. He is very physically abusive and she plans on leaving him given a chance. A sailboat ride at night gives her a chance to escape. She leaves on a bus and arrives in Iowa to start a new life. There is a new romance w/a neighbor next door, who is a teacher at the college. She is reunited w/her mom in a nursing home and she has a job in a library. But Martin tracks her down and there is a confrontation and things don't go well for Martin. A good movie which ends well. I did read the book and the ending is different, but, I like the movie better. very good acting all around.

one of my favorite movies ever. A bride talks her husband into buying a trailer so they will have a place to stay on their honeymoon, plus, have it while he takes construction jobs around the country. Good Plan! What could go wrong? Just about everything! In 1953, it was not common to drive a big trailer around, like it is today. so many mishaps happen at every turn, which Lucy makes all the more enjoyable. While Desi tries to stay calm through all the chaos. A very good segment in which they pull the trailer on a very scary ride up Mt. Whitney. There is a separation, and possible divorce, but, in the end the trailer brings them back together. The sad part that in real life Lucy and Desi could never have taken a trailer and driven and lived in it, and be free to wander where the wind took them. They were stuck and were prisoners in Hollywood. The open road is a great place to be!

I've seen this movie at least 50 times, it's a good movie to enjoy if you want to rest your brain. It is fun seeing all those huge Triffids walking around rucking havoc. the story is simple, a man has surgery on his eyes and therefore was not able to see a meteor shower which has left nearly everyone blind. Having so many people blind at once is not good. The movie points out the fact that once you are blind, you are no longer any use. So the guy rescues a girl, who can also see. They travel across England, take a boat to France, drive to Paris and beyond. at a Chateau they meet a pretty young woman and they form a family unit. there is a survivor rescue aboard a submarine, a baby's birth, and science researchers in a lighthouse who discover the secret of destroying the Triffids once and for all! a very watchable movie!

what's not to like? A beautiful location, Crete. Gorgeous scenery. The haunting opening song, set the tone for the whole movie. Top notch actors! It is based on a book By Mary Stewart, a prolific writer, But other than the same names and locale, the book is nothing like the movie. The movie is about a young English girl on a holiday w/her aunt. Staying at the hotel is another English young man, and the sparks fly! From then on, hold on to your seat, because things never slow down! There is a mystery afoot! Some strange goings -on, which we will later find out. There is an exciting part about a windmill, a night in an a ancient ruin and a spectacular conclusion aboard a yacht. It is just plain fun and young romance and adventure thrown in.
