Absolutely mind-blowing
I've never written a review on a show or movie...I've never even been compelled to.
This is not a simple horror show at all...it delves deeply into the flawed inner workings of small town, discrimination, the widening gap of the classes, religions, family dynamics, misogyny, addictions, and so much more.
It's true gospel is less about getting a scare and more of what people are capable of doing to eachother, what drives them to make such egregious mistakes, and the accountability/grace needed for us all.
When I tell you I lost count of how many times I cried good tears...
It honestly took me back to memories of places/times with its vivid detail of life in small towns and my own demons. This is a wildly relatable film despite the supernatural horror.
***Warning***
This film has HIGH amounts of religious settings, Biblical references (and straight quotations) and Catholic imagery . Yes, I know the title should give it away but ...I mean...a LOT of scripture. I honestly wasn't ready. I'm an EXvangelist as some of you may be and it's not always in our best interest of our happiness to mentally "go there." So just be prepared if that Is a concern of yours.
I highly suggest turning on captions for all of the beautiful monologues and grabbing your tissue box because oh my goodness!
