A solid enough watch but the plot seemed fanciful beyond even the wildest stretch of the imagination and the styling with cutback scenes throughout just didnt seem to gel in my opinion. The facg they kept reusing the old music without much original material was also irritating and felt lazy. Not that bothered about the historical inaccuracies ie the timelines etc but from the portrayal of numidia as a well back stand along territory, to the coliseum used as a giant fish bowl with killer sharks, or the depiction of an early form of football. Some of it was just plain stupid! The sharks are what annoyed me the most, how the hell could they catch one shark the size of the great white and transport it alive to rome let alone 6 of them. Oh and then dry out the coliseum in the space of 24-48hrs later. The plot also had flaws like one minute lucius wants ignore his mother with no acknowledgement of his past, then in the blink of an eye he’s in her embrace and fighting for rhe idea of rome. Was glad to warch the movie, not totally offensive but a big let down to the brilliance of the original. You’d think after 24 yrs theyd have plenty of time to write a stronger story!

Really good movie. A story i knew nothing of but a very very inspiring tale and incredibly well shot. 5*

Awful movie. American satire at its worst with little intelligence or subtlety. Dreadful acting, too many “A” listers attempting humour and failing badly

An ok watch but the story is stretched out so much you can easily get bored and a lot of it is utterly pointless. He accents are the cherry on top - some of the worst accents i’ve ever heard on a tv programme!!

Excellent movie - a total headf**k but if uou step back and go with it keep careful eye on small points you’ll love it. Very clever movie!

I thought Cranston was really good in this. Thought it was well set with a good cast and a really strong soundtrack. Yeah the story line could have a little more however as it’s based on real life you’re better off not deviating too far from the truth. Well worth a watch.
