Could there have been a better way of being parents to a child who was destined to die...???
Could a child choose a better way to live knowing for sure, that her days were numbered...???
I left the theatre wondering...
‘The Sky Is Pink’ is a true story about an admirably awesome family of four comprising Panda, Moose, Giraffe and of course, Aisha.
The movie is a flashback.
Aisha, as the afterlife narrator, takes us through the roller-coaster journey of her parents, Niren and Aditi.
Throughout the various segments of narration, the story of the Chaudharys effortlessly and effectively tugs at the heart... sometimes you giggle and sometimes you cry...
It is impossible to ignore the gnawing pain in the chest and the lump in the throat while witnessing the twenty years of life led by the couple. Their despair and dejection at the failure to save their elder daughter, their acute awareness of the rare genetic immunodeficiency disorder (SCID) that their second daughter is diagnosed with, their undauntable determination to do everything possible for her, their struggle through financial crises, their temporary triumph over the disease, their anguish and wretchedness at the onset of Pulmonary Fibrosis as the side effect of chemotherapy; every bit of it is heart wrenching...
Despite the strong, individual personality traits and despite being judgemental of one another at certain moments, the deep-rooted love shared by Niren and Aditi and their single-minded focus towards the common goal of caring for their sick child is truly endearing and inspiring...
Ishaan, as the ever compromising and caring sibling, is in every manner the brother every girl would wish for...
The highlight of the movie however, is Aisha’s narration, which is winningly adorable and bears testimony of her zest and zeal to live life to the fullest.
Well, Farhaan Akhtar as Niren, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Aditi and Rohit Saraf as Ishaan are awesome. Zahira Wasim as Aisha is undeniably outstanding... The interactions of the Awesome Foursome, as a super cool-super close family, along with the addition of the adorable pooch Rolo, is beautiful. There were many beautiful scenes where I found myself smiling through my tears...
At the end of the movie, I stayed seated for a while trying to gather my emotions and I noticed there were many more presumably trying to do the same...
I had liked Shonali Bose’s ‘Margarita with a Straw’ very much... and was looking forward to her next movie...
If I could, I would have watched the first day first show of ‘The Sky Is Pink’.. But since that didn’t happen, I had decided to check the reviews instead...
I must admit that I almost always find the reviews and ratings of Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra quite fair and accurate... But this time around, after watching the movie, I feel they have been very miserly in their respective ratings as 2.5 and 3.5 stars.
I cannot empathise with their logic that there was a definite attempt at manipulating emotions, nor do I feel that Priyanka looked too chic and glamorous. The discerning eye of the mother in me, could actually see a lot beyond Priyanka’s kohled eyes and painted lips... Moreover, is it mandatory necessary to ‘look’ old and haggard to portray sorrow and suffering???
