Very Comprehensive & Informative. As an "only 19" Infantry volunteer& SG! IQ who had read all of Solzhenitsyn ( WW2 Russian Artillery officer, sent to the Gulags for a letter questioning Stalin's tactics). I was excited to be involved. The reality of losing friends& others maimed was very saddening.but no joy at the death of deluded or coerced young peasants.
It was shocking to come home to the contempt aroused by "Comrade",( his preferred tltle,) Whitlam, his refusal to allow RAAF to rescue any of the terrified Sth Vietnamese because they were just "filthy Balts' who deserved to die, also stating we would "come home in dishonour",& his victory parade in China. Ch41 "last Days' & Ch42 "Baby Killers" document the false & outrageous contempt on young Australians who had risked life & limb resisting cruel communist expansion.which now is sadly threatening Australia & Europe..
