While definitely being better than Fallen Kingdom, Colin Trevarrow has shown yet again that he doesn't know how to direct this series. In my opinion, only Spielberg understands what fans of this franchise want.
Dominion was a huge mess of random events struggling to hold a cohesive story together. Too much forced action, FAR too many forced call-backs to the original JP1. It made the film feel disingenuous, like it was dangling a nostalgia laced bait to reel in original fans. About the only thing the film got right was inclusiveness of acting cast. Having stronger female roles and persons of color without feeling like they were included to give the IDEA of inclusion. Acting was fairly solid, which is honestly one of the only things that saved the rating from a 1 star; that and the obligatory CGI/dinosaurs (who doesn't love them?).
Finally, without spoilers, the final dinosaur fight scene (again the forced call-backs), felt completely insane and unrealistic in all meaning of the sense.
In summation, the film felt like almost every other movie made in the last decade: overreaching and overrated. If I hadn't felt obliged to watch it due to my fandom of the entire Jurassic Franchise, I would have saved my $20.
