It's kind of disappointing cause I expected more. The first HG movie was so good. You get a clear picture of Katniss's struggles and you really feel for her. J. Lawrence did a great job bringing that character to film.
Spoilers alert
The way Lucy is being punted in the games as a tribute is so petty and vague. How Mayfair and Billy managed that was still unknown. And then Lucy started singing when she was reaped because apparently that's what normal ppl do when they are being whisked away to compete in Battle Royale against their will, I guess. Also, the two name thing is so weird and unnatural, Lucy Gray.
And what's with Gaul, the gamemaker? She's trying so hard to be menacing or savage, but the whole thing feels amusing instead. What's with that hair and what's wrong with her eye?
It also makes no sense Highbottom have such a grudge against Coriolanus. The gripe is between him and his father, right? There is no real benefit in causing Coriolanus's downfall not does the younger Snow pose any threat to Highbottom in the first place. Coriolanus and Tigris are poor, they could barely afford rent and food, they are already down, so what's the point?
There also seemed to be a lack in interest to develop Lucy's character. There were some references here and there to Katniss, which made it even worse and like she's a poor shadow of the original heroine. Basically, Katniss's a swamp potato (what an insult). I don't understand, how does that dialogue help me to love the HGs more?
The whole ensemble looks so theatrical and exaggerated, it's not even believable.
On hindsight, the actors were ok, given that they did what they could with the storyline given. I expected more especially when President Snow is my favourite character.
