I'm a huge fan of the games and was really looking forward to this but once i saw the casting i wasnt holding my breath. Apart from the actress playing Claire, it fails on every aspect. Why oh why couldnt Christopher Gans or Guillermo de toro direct and write the screenplays? Awful casting especially leon, jill, wesker and chris. Where was Hunk and Barry? Why show the statue in the police station but not use the medallion to open the secret passage under the station? No backstory or motivation for William and Anette Birkin, and Wesker...oh dont get me started. It was very cheaply done, a good example being the lab under Racoon city which is not an under the stairs harry potter type single basement room, its supposed to be a multi million dollar research faciltity. It did try and do things differently but ultimately failed as it didnt flesh out the story at all and the characterisations of jill, leon and wesker were particuarly bad. I mean to take such beloved game characters and completely change them is not a good move. There was no depth to it at all. No backstory, and to briefly show the Ashford twins (Alexa and Alfred) but not delve deeper was a travesty in itself. The games are so good as the story is revealed as you explore but there was none of that here. Even poor lisa trevors story wasnt explored. And dont get me started on william birkin and his mutated form and the fact his wife was very badly sidelined. Until they get a decent script and decent director this is going to go the way of the hellboy reboot. My poor husband had to listen to a thirty minute rant from me after this had finished. It was that bad.The original first Milla one was much, much better and thats saying something. It just lacked so much. Next time (because they are going to inflict another one on us) change director, make sure the screenplay is much much better, recast (at the minimum) leon and Jill and give fans the damn film they deserve. Its such a shame as we and kaya scodelario deserve better!!
