Lesley McGill – Google

I wasn't sure I would enjoy this film as I am not a great fan of Winslet. However despite this- I really did. Left the cinema very thoughtful and an hour or so later realized it was not as it seemed at first (doh). This is a film I would recommend absolutely. In fact it is one of the best films I have seen this year.and if anyone has seen my reviews of previous films I have seen lately you will know this is a biggy.

This review is hard to write. On the one hand I have seen a film 2 days earlier which was much worse and had to give one star to write the review- I would have liked to give it no stars at all. This film was better but only just. DV is such a powerful and sad subject for victim ( male or female) but I felt this was so under emphasized. It was as if we were meant to feel as sorry for the protagonist as the victim. For me it made it seem as if the were a couple of incidents that could have been excused as accidents. Nowhere did the film appear to invesigate or show the real effects of DV. Just a couple of tears and then hey ho everything's ok. At no time did I view Lilly as a victim in the real sense of the word. This is wrong. In my former role I had experience of the results of DV and in that case the victim was a man and ultimately he was stabbed and died. This film makes DV into the standard of a Rom Com i.e. sitting in front of the television shedding a couple of tears when Lilly sees Atlas it the end of the film and thinking ahh they will get back together at last!!! No Not Good At All.

My partner and myself didn't speak to each other from the closing credits until we got back to the car. We were both shocked at how stunningly bad this film was. Pointless storyline, dreadful special effects and as for the music, I can only assume that this was done so badly in the hope it will many years down the line, become a cult classic of bad films. As for the Chucky like baby, dear God words fail me.
