After a worryingly woke first few minutes, this movie really gets into it's stride and becomes a fascinating watch.
The section of the film where we follow Elvis through his time in the army is particularly gripping. In all other stories about Elvis, this part of his life is always glossed over with a two second clip of him getting his haircut and then we're suddenly in 1961. It's like 'Hey, wait a minute, there must be more to tell us here'. And we get to see a lot more!
The clips from his sixties movies are just as bad as you remember but cringingly funny. Old McDonald Had a Farm must be the lowest point in Elvis' career - I was virtually hiding behind the couch as he was singing it!
Thoroughly recommended.
