Watched this movie recently, after around 2 decade it was made. I grew up watching Indian and some Hollywood movies, now I feel like - Guys, whom are you cheating, seems like you can do better job with minimal resources(I feel the same with other Majid majidi and Asghar faradhi movies) with this craft😂😂. Ok ok, I know some of you are laughing at me like dude you don't know the difference between movies made for mass consumption and artistic movies. Yeah, I understand, my gripe is just that I expect that atleast it can be 10:1 ratio, which I don't think is the case. But, that just could be me feeling that way, poor me.
About this movie, it's an emotional journey, whose after effects leaves us with some spiritual questions. For those who have that quest BTW. Even without that, just the craft alone is so adorable. The cinematography, acting of every single character, the culture, the sounds of nature, the silence, the bgm(in very few scenes) every single thing is memorable.
One can watch this movie and experience it.
Just allow me to add one more perspective to watch this movie in different light, since many reviews I saw interpreted that this movie depicts "how a blind child faces challenges due to his disadvantage" - yeah that's how it looks on the surface. On the flip side it is also about how a normal human with all his senses operating fine is deficient in connecting with nature the way the blind kid connects. Mohammed is extraordinarily capable of connecting with nature which others can't, he can listen to the sound of fallen hatchling, tries to catch the wind, decodes patterns in plants, flowers and sounds, try to talk with woodpecker by tapping the wood(the pre-climax scene). Now I am bit perplexed here about who is deficient.
Instead of looking at Mohammed with my self-righteous pitiness and thanking God for creating me with no disabilities, it makes much more sense for me to see that every humans are deficient in their own way. This helps me to have much more dignified approach towards differently abled individuals.
That's my two cents. Thanks for reading. Experience the movie once. There are more to it.
PS : Thanks to Meydiana Rizki's review here. Its detailed and wholesome.
