SO bad that my friend, with whom I watched this drivel, thought it was a SPOOF of rom coms. You could see every plot device from a mile away; none of the actor's roles were developed and it was laughably bad, an utter waste of time. Additionally, there are several wonderful actors whose talents are completely wasted here: Rachel Griffiths, Dermot Mulroney and Bryan Brown. Regarding the male lead, Glen Powell, he's a hottie and may be good if actually given a decent role and sorry to say that that Sydney Sweeney,(female lead) though attractive in a bland way gives an equally flat acting performance here. And just to give a taste of actual lines from a wedding vow in the "movie": "You are the peanut butter to my jelly." I watched this so you won't have to.

THIS film was heartbreaking and beautiful as well. Denial of one's race and "passing" has been around since humans noticed and cared about it. When the main character sings her song in Maori to help the baby arrive, its beauty, grief and sorrow were so strong, tears poured from my eyes. Incredible film. The kind that wins awards. Highly recommend!

Outstanding acting by both actresses who played the mother and daughter. Very sad story about a narcissistic mother who manipulates her daughter through cruel, biting, toxic behavior. Watching the actress play the mother with Parkinson's disease is painful to watch. But so is the daughter trying to be a "good" daughter to a narcissist (who of course is NEVER good enough) while at the same time hoping to create her own life and individuate but her mother always stands in the way. I didn't give it 5 stars because it's such a tragic film, but definitely worth a watch as long as you know what you're in for.

I love Nicole Kidman; she's one of my favorite actresses so I watched it. Unfortunately, her part was pretty thin, not much development. Zac Efron was okay except his character was a self-involved jerk, but when he met Kidman's character he morphed immediately into a good guy without any transition. The stand-outs were Joey King and Kathy Bates, but it was a ho-hum rom-com overall. I hope that Ms. Kidman chooses her next roles more carefully! I give it a C.

A lot of work went into this series and the acting was good all around so I have to give 3 stars for that. Unfortunately, more characters were added later in the series without any explanation as to the reason and there was very little meat to their existence so that was a headscratcher. Also, these powerful, wealthy men/husbands don't seem to have actual jobs! And though I love Nicole Kidman, she's a wonderful actress and gorgeous, I thought she was a bit too mature for playing a mother of young children, especially three year old Gus. Her hair and makeup were odd. She looked like a tired schoolmarm and when she smiled (which was very rare) her face stretched in an odd way. She is a beautiful woman and I wish she would allow herself to age gracefully though I realize it's very hard to do in Hollywood!

Excellent series based on the book, and appreciated the updated soundtrack! All of the actors were well suited to their roles, and a stand out was Olivia Cook as Becky Sharp! I read earlier comments criticizing her character as unlikeable, compared to the role of Amelia. Well, I for one appreciated the adherence to Thackerey's original version of Becky Sharp, as her surname announces to the reader/viewer - she's no softie and uses her head to plan an escape route or a way to make money or gain power. She is an example of someone who doesn't open her heart and can therefore be cruel and cold. However, the finale of the story was somewhat uplifting - but not pure rainbows and lollipops. I enjoyed it thoroughly and highly recommend the series!

I need to preface this review with the observation that I've become weary of so very many formulaic films with empty calories that when I came upon one that was character driven, with personal touches, personality eccentricities and human exchanges, I was like a starving person who was served a veritable feast! What a joy to watch Paul Giamatti play a realistic character, supported beautifully by Dominic Sessna and Da'Vine Joy in a storyline that I could relate to! I was a college student at Penn State in 1970 and the blindingly white snowscape interrupted by large institutional and imposing buildings dotted with tiny people trudging up the path, brought me right back there. The look and the feel of the film is true to the time. I LOVED this film and am so happy to see that it's getting the well-deserved attention it warrants!!

I enjoyed this follow-up story line to Pride and Prejudice though it is not a Jane Austin story, rather a plot that turns left instead of straight. Quite a few comments have been very critical of the casting of some of the main characters, especially of the actress who played Elizabeth, but I think that's quite unfair. The original character of Elizabeth is "more plain than her sister" and isn't vain about her appearance. The actress who plays her presents her as exactly that and is now six years older. The actor who plays Darcy is also appropriate, a bit prim and proper. I enjoyed the story and the ending was not something I anticipated. I really liked seeing favorite British actors that have become more well-known over time: James Norton, Matthew Reis, Jenna Coleman and Matthew Goode. These are all good solid actors and I'm glad that I watched. Don't expect a sequel though. Appreciate it for what it is, a good story -

As soon as I saw the main character, John Beecham , dressed like Indiana Jones, I knew that this was going to be pretty silly. He is the HERO, and India in 1795 is just a backdrop for his heroism. It's a fairytale dressed up as some sort of history which is fine but don't expect it to make the slightest bit of sense regarding relationships between East Indians and the British occupiers. I was so annoyed by the fatuous storyline I finally aborted halfway through episode three.
