Good job Netflix, you turned insanely good webtoon into a drama that made 80% of its readers frustrated. No surprise though; it's pretty normal for Netflix to completely ignore the source material when it comes to adaptations, and stick in whatever they think is trending; tarnishing the overall storyline.
here's the problems i had with this show (!!spoilers!!)
[being rushed] ; the military didn't show up or contribute to any of the story in the original webtoon until the last few episodes, after everyone but hyuk & hyun escaped into the forest. with the military suddenly being thrown into the drama, characters lose proper character development due to the fact they were forced to be independent within a monster filled apartment.
[literally 10% accuracy to actual source material]
- why is this person dead, why is this person not dead, who is this person, why is this happening, yada yada.
- wook got killed off but of course that was all a lie (wow im so surprised)
- the romance between hyun & min doesn't create enough emotional impact as much as jisu & hyun does
-apparently a dog can find an exit
- multiple monsters are somehow NOT in the parking lot.
[more in-depth about hyun & min < hyun & jisu]
-what hyun & jisu have in comon is that they both lost people that were extremely important to them, but in opposite ways. haerang & jisu had a good relationship while hyun & his family had a terrible relationship, but in the end they were what was pulling hyun towards becoming a monster(his desire). i don't recall jisu ever having a nosebleed, so she didn't have a desire.
- jisu lost her boyfriend to suicide, and she is yet approached by another guy that she eventually comes to like. it creates this emotional factor for her since she lost haerang in the past, it would extremely affect her if she lost hyun too. when he mentioned that he was considering committing suicide, she extremely hated the thought of it.
- in hyun's case, he just liked her because she looked like his favorite character from a movie, but also since he didn't really have someone to lean on (cause they all died). jisu became someone that he could depend on at his most vulnerable state. the song they write together plays a key role in maintaining hyun from completely turning into a monster.
- what hyun & minsi/eun have in common is...nothing. they have nothing in common, there is not one emotional factor that could possibly bring them together. sure, min tells hyun to stand up for himself & speak his mind, but that's it. eun had more of an emotional attachment towards her brother than hyun.
- in terms of jae-heon & jisu, it didn't make sense since jisu didn't like him back the same way he did in the webtoon. it just ended up being odd how the love triangle between hyun, jisu & minsi/eun was trashed (though minsi /eun barely did anything to make hyun like her better)
what's good about it
- good cast; i think they did a good job for the actors/tresses of jisu, hyuk, wook, sangho, kapsoo & yuri.
- nice quality sets; the apartment's design, bad lighting, things on the verge of breaking, etc.
the only reason i'm not giving this 1 star is due to the cast.
