What a disappointment. I have been a fan of Flight Simulator since the days of the DOS version running on Windows 3.1. I was up to FS X Gold version and as looking forward to the highly touted graphics that 2020 would bring and I must say the graphics are very impressive but as a flight simulator, it is very sub-par. I'm willing to suffer through a learning period but my frustration level finally hit its' limit today. I purchased a new PC from a local store ($1000), purely so that I could enjoy this version of Flight Simulator. So, I've got a IBUYPOWER - Element Gaming Desktop- Intel Core i7-9700F - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 - 2TB Hard Drive + 240GB SSD. One would have thought that should suffice in handling the graphics requirements for this game. Game might be a better term to be used as opposed to simulator. I'm going to find the proper forum to list all of the bugs, missing features and Long load times. I measured 5.0 minutes to just load the game and that only gets you to the main screen. If you were a big fan of FSX, I don't think you will enjoy this game. Sudden hiccups that shut down the simulator mid-flight, engines quitting for no explainable reason, menu items not visible unless you are in full screen mode are just some of the issues I'm seeing. The fact that it doesn't come with a training manual should tell you something. Some aftermarket instructions are out there but not from the supplier. What? No operator manual?! Kind of a joke.
Here are some other issues that turned me sour on this version:
FSX had dockable panels to allow custom views such as radio stack, Garmin GPS, throttle Quadrant and others. With 2020, you got to click around to select the view you need and if it's not large enough, use the mouse wheel to zoom. Not really feasible while you're flying. Another really annoying issue is with updates. After trying to get this customized to suit my taste (if that's even possible) and then getting kicked out to the desktop for some random reason, I would get discouraged and give up. Then I go back with new found determination only to see that "Updates are available". So, now your only choice is to update! So, I'm going to wait hours to download a ridiculously large update (I had one at over 4GB) to play with this some more. I don't don't think so. Today, what put me over the edge was I was just trying a simple 1 hour flight. At 16,000 feet both engines quit again! Nice little message popped up saying that my engines are not running, Press Ctrl + E to start. Did that. Nothing. I remembered F3 starting engines on FSX so I tried it and voila, number 2 started. Then I tried CTRL + E again and managed to start number 1. Great eh? Ooops, I was at full throttle and it caused the aircraft to become overstressed! Have to start over. Goodbye flight... Finally, the lack of available included aircraft is pathetic. I paid for the "Deluxe Premium" version. Very nice selection of Liveries but get your wallet out if you want to buy a 737 or whatever is available on their "Marketplace". So, I've got 2 choices. Go back to FSX or look for another simulator all together. I'm not willing to keep uninstalling, re-installing, installing on SSD, etc. I'm done.
