Boring movie. The storyline is lame. I actually found it to be offensive. A young man who OWNS a successful bodega in New York, has great neighborhood friends, a love interest and family in his life, but he is complaining that he needs to move to Dominic Republic to find a better life?! The main characters in the movie all express a lack of gratitude for anything positive in their lives. Such as attending Stanford! A movie of whining and complaining because even the best, is not good enough.

I was completely captivated by the story until about 3/4 the way through the book. After that the story just got too rambling and frustrating. I had to make myself finish reading it and did not enjoy it after that point. It felt like the author would purposely drone on with unnecessary descriptions and not get to the point in every scenario. Grown people who never say what they mean, or speak up for themselves? No, thank you. Theo's interactions with everyone in the story always left him a victim in one way or another.. But the novel won a Pultizer apparently. So what do I know?
