Tenet is an extremely thought-provoking film to say the least. It is an understatement, in fact, as you'll need to a degree in quantum physics to understand so don't even try. I did have the good fortune to study this in the Chemistry building at The University of Birmingham, so actually could make sense of the story. Others couldn't, which is why you'll see their bitterness disguised in their reviews to hide their lack of intelligence, which is required for this film. They will compensate themselves by using extremely long words from the Oxford thesaurus for studying an arts course, which did not prepare them for the world they could not articulate beyond their imagination. Perhaps, this is fuelled by the fact they were aspiring writers and had their scripts rejected, which prevented their ideas from being realised.
Once you see through this display of animosity by those who have already had the privilege to see it before us, only to give it such a bad review, you will figure out for yourselves whether you like it or not.
In the first instance, the story opens up to a grand scene, which becomes confusing. However, it becomes clear the mechanism that is involved and then your mind pieces it all together for itself. Its narrative is not laid out neatly for you like a menu in a restaurant, just so that you could choose your best scenes a la carte, at a glance.
It is one giant puzzle and do not worry if you cannot fit all the pieces together in time. It is the action derived from this set of conditions is what you really pay to see and you get way more than your money's worth. The action scenes they present to you in such detail and at high speed are incredible. You will not be left short-changed. They certainly took me out of my realm for a little while and provided me a with a gateway to escapism from Covid-19. They obviously must have filmed the scenes before lockdown and managed to do the editing whilst in lockdown to give us this masterpiece.
The cinema is very therapeutic during troubled times, only if it can show films of such fantasy to escape reality. Tenet did the job superbly. Christopher Nolan delivered as he always does with his unique style of filmmaking. Reminiscent of his signature method, Tenet has to be the best one to date in one's opinion. I even found my self laughing about the joke Robert Pattison makes at the end. You will only find it funny if you understand the terminology perhaps but the humour is there. It is not a clown act. They are not going squirt water in your face to get everyone to laugh. It actually gives you credit for your intelligence, by not insulting it. By the way, do you really want to stay somewhere where everything makes sense?
With all that is going on in this world, it would be extremely worrying if it made sense to you. Evil does not make sense to me. So this film had the superhero who saves everybody through his persistence.
However, everybody goes to cinema to watch the action on the big screen and you certainly will see it in this film. How critics cannot marvel at the work of the camera operators and remark on their incredible skill is beyond me.
I would be doing you injustice by telling you not to go and save your money, as you'll be missing out on outstanding performances by all of the cast members, whose chemistries synergise to bring you this magic.
