As someone who did read this book, and noticed a lot of criticism about it on social media before it even was finished being made, I did not have high expectations. I merely went into the movie out of curiosity, since I read the book, I was curious how they brought it to life. And I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Genuinely blew my expectations out of the water, as I thoroughly enjoyed it! It held my attention the entire time. For squeezing a whole book into a 2 hr movie they did a damn good job getting all the key details in there without it feeling rushed. The cast was amazing, the script was great, and I really do feel it was comparable to the book. Even if you didn’t read the book, if you like dramas/romances, I highly recommend. My husband who is a major movie snob and doesn’t like much, really loved it.
I think most of the really low reviews are from people who either blindly went into this movie knowing NOTHING about the storyline and got triggered, or people who loved the book so much and had a different vision for the cast, and are being overly critical now. I know a lot of people don’t wanna admit it, but it was really good. I hope they make ‘it starts with us.’
