Although the movie pretends like it's about to show the rift that has been created and increasing between a king and his people, but it's never about that, the king has less interactions with people than the actual king in history did🤦🏻♀️so I really don't get why the movie tries such a pretend.
But that's not my main complaint. My main complaint includes not only this movie, but every other movie in history of cinema that tries to represent french revolution.
Is it really hard for directors to understand that the revolution everyone has been romanticising about in the last two centuries, was in fact a bloody civil war? Not all french people agreed with it and eventually those that were once supporters also turned against it? (Ask Lyon about it) or how about the feminist rebels that pointed out that revolutionaries are no better than monarchs in being sexist? The rift that was eventually created between Paris and other parts of France which only grow as the years progressed? tell me, is that so hard? Or directors are just too coward to admit such a thing? Why french revolution movies always have to turn into a long painful racing saloon, where we have to take sides? While you perfectly know that when you show all the key points which makes the story more realistic, we won't root for any of these people in here. Why should there be a side to take? Why not make things realistic? Why is that so hard and scary for you? You wanna glorify a revolution and by doing so, remove it of all of its flaws which makes it unsympathetic is really pathetic attempt, remind you! Cartoons and teenage dramas exist for that kind of romanticism and delusions but not what's called a historical story that's supposed to be realistic.
I know what I expect actually requires a very long TV show instead of just a movie which is another problem. You can't fit all of these heavy stories in only one movie that's less than"Gone With The Wind" and frankly, even this flat of movie didn't have enough to time to show what was the true vision. I was beyond disappointed when the movie ended with King's death. Like you literally ended movie exactly when historically, things got more interesting. Such a shame
