This film gives a wonderful sense of the life, and times of Leonard Berbstein in relation to his layered and beautiful love with wife Felicia, and his complicated identity as an artist, and human. His lust for life, and the freedom he sought in terms of self-expression made for both an incredible and tortuous life that was authentically his own.
The film gracefully articulated this complicated dynamic through breathtaking cinematography, production design, meticulous research, writing and the vital and visceral performances by Bradley Cooper and Cary Mulligan. They were both sp wholelly committed I can't imagine how they didn't lose a piece of themselves during their work on this film. Blessed be to the life and times of Bernstein, his wife, and family.
