4.5 stars but fractions not allowed. Ignore the reviews. I’ve just seen this at the end of June 2023 and I thought it was great. Uncomfortable to watch, but great. Darkly comedic warning in the lobby of the theatre was spot on. I am glad I didn’t read any of the published views of our so called wise theatre critics, before the play (I know what a philistine I am) who all seem to be pining for David Tennant’s performance in the early noughties. Lily Allen is not a one trick pony and I thought she and the other cast members delivered an intense and insane 2 1/2 hours of unfolding drama - and weirdly, gags. The set was impressive with apt use of sound effects and music. A couple of people walked out - not sure why - but possibly as the dialogue is rather fruity and there are historical non PC references to race and disability - get over it… It’s fiction isn’t it? PS Champagne and G and Ts were great from the bar but eye wateringly hefty prices!
