This isn’t your typical “Halloween” movie, but that’s not a bad thing. The director has given us a look at what happens to a small town as a result of Michael Myers’ rampage. We saw mass hysteria and mob mentality in “Halloween Kills”, and we see victim blaming in this movie. I liked the fact that some of the residents of Haddonfield blamed Laurie Stride for the fact that Michael Myers ever showed up.
The Corey story line teased a successor to The Shape, only to take that away in a series of twists at the end. I thought it was a well made movie with excellent cinematography. Also, this was by far the most gory of the movies.
My only complaint was withholding Michael for much of the first two acts. I personally would have liked to see more of him, but I get that he is supposed to be a 65 year old man. He has moments of his old strength, but ultimately he’s not what he once was. I gave it 4 stars because I felt they showed too much of his face with the mask off. I would have preferred slightly different camera angles, more shadows, or frankly just showing the other character’s reactions over seeing as much as we did. I felt like it took away some of the mystery for the audience.
Overall, I felt like it was a very good way to end the Michael Myers story.
