Zoom was an experience, a positive one for sure (and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually enjoy superhero movies).
The $75 million budget was clear by the choice of actors that were at play but not necessarily in the story. It was predictable which even for a kids movie was a little disappointing but nonetheless it wasn't that much of a bother.
Contrary to some beliefs such as Krysten Watson's the movie wasn't unapologetically sexist and misogynistic. Having watched movies from the early 2000's and earlier makes one realize that those were different times. Looking back at the jokes made in Zoom with today's more woke mindset I can see how they seem sexist and misogynistic, but realizing that back then jokes like that would make the whole table laugh make you realize they're not meant to harm. Besides the movie did make a joke that for 2006 was already risky, that being the moment where Tim Allen says "You're pretty dramatic for a straight guy" to Rip Tom.
The characters themselves were really well written despite being fairly cliché. The actors genuinely seemed to enjoy playing their roles which made the characters seem more alive and realistic. Only thing that would've made Tim Allen's character better was shortening his grumpy mood from 2/3 of the movie to 2/5 and give Cindy a little less screentime in exchange for the others getting more. (Excluding Jack)
Overall I wouldn't say that Zoom is a must watch but it's definitely worth a try!
