They don’t make historical movies like they used too, Napoleon was an absolute let down, to say the very least, two and a half hours of pure nothing. The lack of depth in this movie is beyond belief, the acting was even more so lacking in depth.
Perhaps the biggest let down was that the movie has no soundtrack of its own, in fact, the movie used multiple tracks from other movies. In the first scenes with Napoleon and Josephine, the film played the theme music from the Pride and Prejudice film from 2005, I was immediately confused, I thought an epic war and historical film like this would deserve its own theme. I think many people can agree that a film is made by its theme music and is always remembered by its theme music. I can say that because the moment I heard the music from Pride and Prejudice I remember the movie and its story, that is what theme music is trying to accomplish. The horrible throat singing in the film at random parts did not make the movie impactful at all.
The film tries to make up for itself in the end with the iconic battle of Waterloo, yet somehow only left me more disappointed, the whole thing being VERY anti-climactic.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I heard it was in production, being a huge historical buff, I was excited to finally see a modern adaptation of the iconic Napoleon. I wanted to really love this film and I tried but to no avail.
And that ending was just…well you can guess, terrible
