Watching such a wonderful portrayal of queer young love and queer (non-biological required) families, was so incredibly beautiful and heart warming. As an adult queer and mother, I feel real hope for future generations. Shows like Heartstopper, Schitt's Creek, Sex Education and Tales from the City, are such wonderful representational shows with such truth at the core, and to live in a world where those stories can be depicted so perfectly, makes the world feel a lot less painful and dark.
These shows are not just entertaining, they pave the road and shine light on the path for demographics that are too often forgotten about, diminished, downtrodden or dehumanised. To feel seen, to feel like you belong, to have a community, to be able to have the language to describe who you are or how you feel, can not only make people feel better, but it can save lives. Labels in a world where who you are is not accepted, can save lives.
These shows are important.
And to anyone reading this that is struggling with their sexuality or gender... you are loved, you have a whole community that loves you. Find us, we are here.
