This was a very compelling read, very cleverly written. My only disappointment was that the author didn't take full advantage of the 'aside' of having one of the protagonists interested in becoming a library archivist of black history, particularly about black people who had distinguished themselves in the literary world. The book would have benefitted from notes at the back that provided details about these individuals; e.g., Phyllis Wheatley, Harriet Jacobs, Claude McKay, Alice Dunbar Nelson, Paul Laurence Dunbar, James Forten, Harriet Wilson, Dr. Charles Drew, Don Shirley and others. This was a missed opportunity when we so much need to be enlightened about black history.
