The Monkey is an unfocused, frustrating attempt at blending horror and comedy, and it fails on both fronts. It squanders a great cast, drags its story into unnecessary detours, and delivers some of the least effective scares in recent horror history. The tonal whiplash between silly and serious makes for an exhausting viewing experience, and the lack of genuine suspense or scares makes it feel like a massive waste of potential. If you’re a die-hard Stephen King fan, you might be curious to check it out—but be warned: this is not It, Doctor Sleep, or even 1922. If you’re looking for something scary, unsettling, or even remotely competent, you’d be better off re-reading the short story and skipping this failed adaptation altogether.
