As a horse vet of 30+ year, someone who rode with Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt and Buck Brannaman, and someone who has worked with a number of BLM mustangs, I had great hopes for this Redford-produced film...but it was one of the more cringe worthy films featuring horses I have seen. I think it does a huge disservice to the true BLM/prisoner program since it makes them out to be truly horrible horse people with zero common sense. Lead actor Matthias S. gives a wonderful performance, but I could not believe ANY of the equine side of this. The cabinet full of ketamine that multiple prisoners easily accessed was hysterical!! The poor horses having to deal with Bruce Dern telling their riders to "Get in sync" while their mouths are jerked on and backs pounded on was truly painful to watch. Now if someone actually made a good documentary about this, it would be worth watching since working with horses can truly change people. This is not worth your time. Watch 2018's "The Rider" for a far better film featuring a Native American horseman who can show what a horse means to a person.
