As a ANKC registered breed I full support the letter below following the one sided report on tonight's,( Monday)
Programme.
If you are going to report on pedigree dogs..get both sides of the story
What follows is the message I have just sent to the Project team after they aired their segment on Brachycephalic breeds tonight on Network 10.
“Such a pity a more balanced view of the brachycephalic breed story was not aired. My question has always been: where have these dogs with issues been purchased? How many have come from reputable ANKC registered breeders who are actually aware of the requirement to breed happy, healthy, long lived examples of their breed and have invested thousands into breeding programs which deliver just that. I am an ANKC registered pug breeder of over 40years and an All Breeds Dog Judge and I have bred dogs which live to 16 and 17 years of age. If you want healthy dogs buy from registered breeders who invest in every puppy they produce. I for one never want to produce a puppy which causes untimely heart ache for any family. It’s possibly this that sets me apart from the many unregistered breeders who capitalised on the COVID Demand for puppies and bred dogs without any investment in their conformational health.
How about a more balanced story as opposed to a scare campaign on brachy breed purchasers. Disappointed!”
