I know this review is more than 13 years late, but I'm getting ready to start using my equipment again and thought I'd say something about it.
I used to use this a lot back in middle and high school. I was way more into laser tag back then, and BattleTag showed what at-home/household/consumer level laser tag could be. It was a dream come true for me. They essentially took commercial laser tag that you would experience in a recreational arena, added their own spin, and brought it to consumers.
I absolutely love how they implemented the aspects of limited health and ammo. You have to go find find an ammo pack or med kit if you need to replenish. If you're tagged out, there's an option to require players to go to a respawn point in order to get back into the game. Kinda like how it's done in FPS games, or in some airsoft and paintball games.
And because the game is monitored and coordinated by a computer, BattleTag came with so many different game modes and could play with so many people. Ubisoft, I believe, had planned on having an official way of creating and sharing your own game modes, but that unfortunately never became a reality. But there is a modding community that still managed to find a way of doing just that.
I wish this product never failed as bad as it did. And I wish there were more laser tag product like this now as I like the idea of having an experience at home that's similar to what you might get at a commercial arena, and having so much more on top of that.
