For those complaining about the dark and gloomy scenes, consider that these creatures live very deep/low in the ocean, expect it to be dark. There’s very little light down there. Halle did an amazing job and the storyline cannot be exactly the same since it’s a remake. It’s a kids movie. Adults comparing it to an animated movie from their childhood are rating it with a biased expectation. The fish are supposed to look realistic not cute. Ariel’s hair in the movie is realistically red with dreads. Which makes sense for a black mermaid. Prince Eric was charming and everyone in the theater both clapped or cried in the end. It’ll make a great Broadway show which I’m sure will give many other women the opportunity to play Ariel on stage.

It’s not a bad movie — most are just expecting it to be like Gone Girl when it’s in its own category. All of the actors played their parts exceptionally well. It does make you think why/how which it’s supposed to. The end isn’t predictable so just watch it for yourself.
