Did no one play the games or read the books or comics? There was enough emotional drama in all of those without manufacturing it. John is fighting against his programming? He takes off the helmet cuz producers cant wrap their head around us being able to connect to a hero who's face we do not see. He has a fresh haircut but a 2 day shadow? That just screams military to me. Is it because movie protagonists cant have a clean shave? I'd say thats against UNSC regulations but lets pick and choose.
This is not John-117. This is more Hollywood , I cant be bothered to understand the material so I'll put "MY creative spin " on it. Because some director thinks this story is really about.....pick your artsy navel gazing garbage.
I give it 2 stars since the effects are decent and the costuming apparently paid attention. What a kick in the pants to Halo fans. This is as bad as the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. This isn't closed mind toxic fan stuff. This series exists because of the world that was already built. If you dont know Halo from Mario Bros, then you'll probably like it. Fans expect to see a live action Halo, not a live action alternate universe Halo, using tired plot points of the authoritarian government and the old "programmed Solder that slowly regains his humanity." Seriously, this series not only doesn't break new ground as it re-imagines Halo, it throws dirt on the real fans who know the story and have supported the gamed and books for years. This isn't toxic fan, this is abject disappointment that once again, Hollywood cant take a great thing and just do that. They have to put their "creative" spin on it. George Clooney's Batman? That was ok to do, as it was creative? Erik Bana's Hulk? How bout Tobey Maguire's dance scene in Spiderman? This is the same garbage. If you say you have played the game and read the books and are ok with this, then you are the reason Spider man shot webbing out of his wrists in the first three movies.
