The very fact that almost half of the country was in an uproar over this movie says that the Director is doing something right, The Hunt tackles some political themes in an unorthodox and controversial situation in the genre of Dark Comedy and in doing so crafted a movie that challenges how well the audience can take a joke. By half of our country getting so upset and making it into a bigger deal than it actually was just helped the movie gain infamy, when this happens for reasons we can't definitively identify the movie gains an infamous reputation making it feel taboo to go and see it. Now, this may not sound like a good thing but actually, this helps gain the movie more attention in places that otherwise wouldn't have so much as look at it twice, but when a movie gains the reputation of taboo not only do more people (that wouldn't have) hear about it but it becomes more of a thrill to do something that you're not supposed to. So, I am glad that there is some truth to the old saying, "There is no such thing as bad publicity", but when this happens to a movie that is getting panned for its political statement those with no sense of humor in regards to their political ideals always tend to use the movie in question as an image for their campaign of protest. Now, while this is still getting the movie more attention and free publicity; it happens to be the attention that no filmmaker, studio, or actor wants…the attention of political division and debate for both sides. Maybe in twenty-five to fifty years from now, the once unwanted attention will start to work in the movie's favor, as now it will gain popularity as the source of major political feuds and ill will between Americans. I personally loved this movie, I thought it was smart, funny, and socially progressive in conducting civil debate and maybe even open the door to a conversation that otherwise may not have been had. I think that no matter which side of the political spectrum you fall under you should see this movie as a good thing for sparking constructive communication, I believe that whether you're Republican or Democrat we can all agree that having civil and constructive debates on sensitive or difficult subjects is a positive thing. So all I ask is that you either give this movie a shot and make up your own thoughts on the movie and potential have a constructive conversation with your family or viewing part (because that is the purpose of these kinds of movies) or you refrain from conjuring an opinion on a piece of art you've never seen and refuse to see. Regardless of what you choose to do, I only ask that you keep in mind that this is just a piece of art the artist/artists made it based on how they perceive modern American society and politics, I personally believe that regardless of whether or not a piece of arts' message disagrees and or agrees with my own personal opinions on the political subject it deserves to exist and move it's spectators regardless of their political identification.
