Spoiler alert! I never write reviews but feel compelled to weigh in on this one as it touches a cord about not being believed. Surely the series is overwhelmingly successful in that these opinions are so intense in reviews that wildly rage about the sheer rubbish and rave about the genius of the story. In my mind, the fact that it elicits such reaction indicates good art. Before you weigh in, watch the entire series. Many things will fall into place when you come to realize that the book written by Jonathan's mother is fiction. I agree that the character of Jonathan could have been more believable with more backstory. Why did Sasha really leave Italy? A few clues about his sketchy character reflected upon by his tortured father wasn't enough for me but not enough for me to pan the screenplay. I loved the fox slinking through Nancy's back garden and all the felines in the homes as silent witnesses and animal totems for inscrutable mystery. The problem of Catherine's son's vexing developmental disorder is a subtle revelation in the last episode. The sexual assault as we can come to see in this story, has lasting harm beyond the inability of the victim to speak up for herself. It is a thoughtful and deep dive into human character and the success of the the series is the controversy it has stirred, making us think. Watch it all the way through and think some more is my suggestion.
