As a huge sci-fi fan, I was excited to watch it. I happily watch anything that is remotely sci-fi related. But I was so disappointed.
1) The premise is ridiculous. They pretend that electricity manipulation is a world-changing power. But nowadays, how it is that much more dangerous than technologies that are accessible to both men and women? For example, a machine gun has a much more lethal capacity than those electric shots (I do not like the book either).
I would understand it if it happened in the stone age, that women got these powers.
They should have made a variety of powers. Like the show "Nevers". Or more powerful powers, like Jean Grey in The X-men. But that would probably ruin the show's budget.
2) The narrative seems forced to tell a very black-and-white perspective about male suppression of women.
And the series doesn't bring anything new to the table that hasn't already been shown in better ways in other series.
4) I loved "Motherland: Fort Salem", where women have magical powers. They managed a good balance between female empowerment, sci-fi, and drama.
5) PS. I see some women who insinuate that those men who don't like the series, don't like it because they are men. Reducing a man's opinion to be because of his gender, is just as bad as if a man says women who like this series are because they are women. Be better.
