People are probably giving this a lot of bad reviews because of the "wokeness", which I must admit at first is a massive eye roll and almost made me turn it off - if you're feeling the same try push through because for me it was well worth it!
It also is not the same as the first instalment and no character lived up to the likes of Ragnar or Lagertha, so don't expect that. The story lines can be a bit over the place and the lack of backstories made the first couple of episodes hard to get through (hence the 4 stars).
But once I got past this I loved it! All the character plots were great and I thought came together brilliantly in the end, it had all the twists and turns of the original if not better. I thought the characters and their acting were great, even if it took me a bit. Finally, the action sequences were freaking awesome, I thought they did an amazing job of all of them (I wish they had this budget for the first season or 2).
If you can get over the obvious historic flaws I think this was a great series and hope they put out a season 2!
