Rutherford Falls is a series I have been watching for the past couple of months or so as an assignment for my English First People 11 class, and while it's certainly entertaining, it's definitely far from my favorite show. The story follows Nathan Rutherford (Played by Ed Helms) and Reagen Wells (Played by Jana Schmieding) as they traverse the complicated conflict between the indigenous people of the area, the Minishonka nation, and the town of Rutherford Falls. My favorite part of the show was definitely the Nathan Rutherford character, played by Ed Helms; the character was written really well and, in my opinion, really upped the comedic value of the whole show through the character's naivety and lack of situational awareness. The rest of the characters in the show were lackluster and forgettable, with the occasional funny side character. If I could change one thing about this show, it would be the forcing of progressive views onto the audience. Look as somebody who lives on the stolen territory of an indigenous people and 100 percent believes in reconciliation and that all humans are made equal; I still draw the line when shows or stories' whole narrative is around how awful white people are. Sitcoms like this are supposed to be funny and a nice break from reality, but when you start adding serious world issues and bashing a massive group of people, it becomes quite the opposite. Rutherford Falls is a perfect example of that. In conclusion, the show is slightly funny at best, with mediocre acting. Rutherford Falls tries to deal with a very complex issue and fails miserably. I would recommend this show if, one, you drive a Prius or two, you voted for Trudeau, or three, if you're a far-right white trash who wants a show to get mad about and call woke.
