Thank you for this short doc about mental health Selena. So many people struggle with mental disorders and we can relate to this.
It’s not always easy, sometimes it’s like you can’t control your thoughts and emotions especially fear and emptiness…it’s like living in black and white: your favorite person can be in the room and you don’t feel excited, your favorite show that makes you laugh every time you can’t enjoy, you have no appetite but you have to eat to live, can’t sleep, sleep paralysis, panic attacks, etc and all of this can sometimes happen in a single day. It gets worse when you start hearing and seeing things that’s not real. At this point you have to see a specialist and medication is probably the only solution that sometimes comes with side effects but worth getting out of that dark side of your mind.
Hanging out with friends and families, people you know and comfortable with plays a awesome role into slowly taking you out of that darkness. They may not even know it but their presence, laughter, love and affection alone can do it.
I don’t know Raquelle but sometimes when you talk about how you’re feeling and what’s going on in your head we get response like “you’re being dramatic” or “nothing is wrong with you” similar to what Raquelle said to Selena at one point but that’s because they don’t understand or they’ve never experienced it for themselves and that’s okay.
It’s also important to know that how you’re feeling can affect the people around you which makes it hard to talk about when they can’t understand. Not everyone is going through or gonna experience the same life struggles. That’s why is so important to surround yourself with people who genuinely care for you and your well-being’s and of course who you genuinely care about too.
I think the documentary was short, concise and it highlights the ups and down of of Selena’s mental health and how she eventually find her light again. Although we haven’t seen the darkest side of her mental health like the psychosis breakdown which is probably one of the extreme one who has mental disorder can go. I think it’s good that it was not filmed because it can be triggering to Selena or anyone who watch it that struggles with a mental disorder.
However, I think the objective of the documentary was achieved and well done to Selena and her team to bring mental health into conversation.
