This show has opened my eyes to so many different points of view. In light of Black History month I have a request. While going through my deceased mother’s papers I found several cards and sheets of poetry by James Cliftonne Morris, a black poet from Queens New York. I believe that his wife was named Poca. Rather than throw away these cards, I was wondering if there was an archive or collection that would be interested in this work. I have not been able to find much information on him. Amazon has 2 books written by a James C Morris: Dusty Shells from the Peanut Gallery and Potpurri from a Black Pen. He appears to have written Love Poems for a remembered black-Indian grandma which appeared in Contemporary American Poetry A checklist Second series 1973- 1983 author Lloyd Davis. I have also seen a reference to him in The Crisis Magazine (NAACP) March 1972 in an article entitled Home Makes it to Jackson by Loften Mitchell. My mom passed away 10 years ago and the last card is from the late 1980’s. I found a notice for a poetry reading Sept 10, 1981 at the Middle Collegiate Church. 50 East 7th Street, NYC. I never met the poet, but it seems a shame for his work to go unrecognized.
