I am torn on this review. Like the new Dune attempt, I respect efforts to make real SciFi. Creating a story, or adding to a story, that already exists is incredibly hard. In that vein, the new Matrix film should be applauded to take the story off into a novel direction. I won't do spoilers here except to say Neo is a character that made a video game about the Matrix. Pretty cool idea. Some of the execution was pretty good and some wasn't. My main complaint is that they seemed to take too long and did the embellishing fight scenes as filler too much. Kind of like the last of the Hobbit films. I'll forgive that. I just wish they could have taken a couple of the story lines a little further. Also, it was nice to see that Moss and Reeves still look good.
Upon reading many of the 1 star reviews, a few were saying there weren't enough fight scenes, a few didn't like the color use by the camera people. These were just a matter of opinion and I respect that. That's what what reviews are about. What I can't abide is how many people took exception of the film making fun of the PC world. Again the intolerance of the microaggression crowd is killing society and the film industry. To them I say "get a life!"
So, in closing , Was the Matrix a great film? No! Am I glad to get a reasonable new version of a favorite SciFi film grouping of mine? A resounding yes! Definitely worth a watch, especially if you liked the Matrix.
