I really, really wanted to love this book as I had heard such great things about it, but there were just so many things that didn’t quite hit like they felt they should.
I felt the writing was very cheesy and hard to stomach, especially when describing the characters. Lowen’s character struck me as a “woe is me” and “I’m not like the other girls” boring kind of character that had me shocked she was the main character/narrator.
Jeremy was written as such a classically perfect kind of male lead. He bored me as well.
The writing was so dramatic in some ways that it actually came off as funny and unbelievable. The ending (SPOILERS) when Verity showed she could talk and move was so anticlimactic and rushed.
I really wanted to like this book, but it was painfully cringey to read, like something a very young and new writer might write. Disappointed.
