I think The Final Girls was one of those movies that's definitely a must-see, must-own classic gem. I never saw it back in 2015 when I was 22. But when I watched it on one of the Showtime channels for the first time last summer of this year at age 26, it was something that I never expected before in my life. I love the performances of the cast. Taissa Farmiga, who people know her from movies like The Bling Ring and 6 Years before she became a household name, thanks to American Horror Story (Murder House, Coven & Apocalypse). Malin Akerman, which many people know her from movies like Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle, The Heartbreak Kid, 27 Dresses, Watchmen and so on. Alexander Ludwig, who I know him as a child actor before he did The Hunger Games, Grown Ups 2, Final Girl, which was also released in 2015, the same year as this movie, Vikings And Bad Boys For Life. Thomas Middleditch, which people know him from Silicon Valley, The Other Guys, The Campaign, The Bronze where he plays Ben A.K.A Twitchy and Zombieland: Double Tap. Adam Devine, which people know him from Workaholics, Pitch Perfect 1 & 2, Uncle Grandpa and so on. Alia Shawkat, who was in Arrested Development, Rebound, The Runaways and Whip It. Nina Dobrev, who was in Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Roommate, Let's Be Cops, The Vampire Diaries and xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Angela Trimbur, who was Cleopatra from Epic Rap Battles of History and a few dancing videos on YouTube. And Chloe Bridges, formally known as Chloe Suazo, who was a child star before she did The Carrie Diaries that many people knew her. There are a lot of great scenes in the film: a few running gags, a couple of horror movie tropes thrown in here and there, having that flashback scene where Max, Chris, Vicki & Gertie were being transported to the past and using it later when Max, Chris and Nancy were being chased by Billy and a great slow-motion chase scene that'll make you go, "WOW!" But I also love the scenes that Taissa and Malin share together on film from the beginning of the movie all the way through the climax of it. And the ending was great. After Nancy and Max have their final moments together, Nancy sacrifices herself so that Max can be the final girl, kills Billy and end the film. After Nancy gets killed by Billy, Max collapses but gets back up with the power, grabs the machete, went outside and she and Billy get into this one-on-one fight. Billy throws his knife at Max, she does a power slide over it, hacks his leg off with the machete, spins around and cut his head clear off. Max sees the end credits playing in the sky, she and Chris share a kiss together, the movie reel begins to transport them to the hospital, all of her friends survived and Max looks at the friendship bracelet that Nancy gave her as a wonderful reminder of her mom. But spoiler alert: there's one more movie that they have to survive in and it's the sequel. And then you see that last shot of Max grabbing the IV drip stand and charges it at Billy as he comes through the hospital until the movie abruptly ends with credits and bloopers playing. Sure, it looks like a PG-13 rated version of Friday The 13th, but still it was a great movie that's so underrated that you just wanna watch it over and over again to appreciate not only the characters that the cast portrayed, but the visual effects, the camerawork, the music, the whole nine yards. And if there's a sequel in the works, I hope that it'll be as twice as exciting than the first one did and I would love to see how it turns out. Fingers crossed until we get a release date of the sequel after the pandemic is over. #FinalGirls
