I was caught off guard in the best way when this movie wrapped up. For the most part, Happiness For Beginners, is a light hearted, predictive film that offers chuckles, smiles and even some cheesy induced eye rolls. Because there is limited conflict, it is extremely easy to watch. A great ensemble cast, each character is very endearing and mildly funny. Ellie Kamper and Luke Grimes have sparkling chemistry lit by their utter sincerity. The film decidedly points to the romantic ending for these two unlikely lovers and you anticipate them making good on that foreshadowing the entire time. However, I did not expect the overwhelmingly warm and fuzzy feelings that it stirred up inside me. The wholesome, genuine spirit of these characters that have history marked with tragedy and familiarity, brought so much joy to my heart with their passionate union. So much so that I not only want to experience it again but feel compelled to urge as many others that will listen to give it a try and trust that the pay off is worth it.

Quite possibly a Christmas classic that will never age and only become more adored as the years go by. The songs by Pasek and Paul are uplifting, sincere and beautiful. The cast handled the music with heart but I can only imagine what a broadway veteran could do to these songs and propel them to soar. Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrel are an iconic duo in this. It’s like they were always this great of a fit together and have starred in countless beloved comedic romps and somehow I was unaware. The chemistry is fantastic and very instep. Octavia Spencer is such a delightful gift in Spirited. Who knew she could sing? Really any of them . Oh my, the company numbers with high energy choreography was the cherry on top of this new holiday favorite. Dickens’ moral fable has received a crazy good retelling by a creative team of today’s most brilliant artists.
