Color me pleasantly surprised!
When I first heard about ANOTHER Christmas Carol movie I was not stoked. Even if it did have Wild Ferrel and Ryan Reynolds! I figured it would be another cheap money grab.
But no! They actually did a lot of interesting and new things with the idea that I think totally paid off. The story was both whimsical and fresh.
This movie also got a few genuine laughs out of me. While not all the jokes are gold they still come at a pretty consistent pace and land often enough to make it worth it I’d say.
I’m by no means a musical lover but this song did make me nod my head and tap my feet a few times. All the songs have good energy and the dance numbers were unexpectedly complex and fun.
It’s a breath of fresh air to hear all the actors actually singing rather than listen to their auto tuned or even flat out dubbed over singing voices. Everyone on the cat may not be the best singers in the world but they can certainly all carry a tune. Not to mention there’s just something fun about hearing Will Ferrel sing haha.
Finally the serious moments of the movie actually glow quite well from the more comedic ones. I never felt too suddenly jarred from scene to scene. When those emotional moments do hit ya they land well and it’s great.
All in all I’m happily surprised! If I’m ding completely honest the movie may be more of a 4/5 stars film due to some references getting a bit tired or some songs be a bit too long. But considering how much I was expecting this movie to be a 2/5 at BEST, I have to give it the pleasure of a 5/5.
Maybe my bar was just set low when going into this movie, but no matter what I certainly left it with a smile on my face and tap in my step.
