let’s start with the characters. the main two protagonists are alright? mel, while she handled surviving in that situation horribly, and basically only (nearly) survived by sheer luck, she ultimately was a likable character. morally she’s a pretty decent person, and the actress playing her did a pretty good job. lila was fine, i guess. she played a snotty bratty teenage girl and she really wasn’t more than that until people started dying. i honestly wish mel lived over her lol but of course she had to be the coveted final girl. dante i think his name was, was a complete idiot, idk why they built him up to be a good dude just to have him become a complete greedy sociopath out of left field, they just kind of killed him before he could have any arc. richter was just annoying idk if the audience was supposed to like him or hate him, he had no clear narrative until he randomly decided to be a hero and immediately died LMAO. ruth? nothing character. sally? wasted potential. leather face was fine, definitely the worst portrayal of him though, it’s just kind of hard to go wrong with leather face.
onto the story. it was kind of rushed i felt, with a lot of GOTCHA moments out of left field. it felt more like a cheap attempt at shocking viewers than it did an actually cohesive plot. theres really no payoff at all here, and i’m not saying every movie has to have a good payoff, but i got nothing out of this. the big shocker ending was stupid too, i don’t mean to sound like a pessimist, but would it have killed you to just keep more than one protagonist alive in one of these movies? according to leatherface, yes, yes it would have. sally and mel’s deaths gave me a feeling of disappointment, i understand that horror movies are supposed to be realistic, so they cant all end happy, but this was so far from realistic i think a happier ending couldve been okay LOL
i cant say it was ALL ‘unsatisfying’ though. the part where mel SWIPES leatherface with his own chainsaw was so awesome, the shots were good, the acting was good, it was a great scene. of course, horror movie antagonists cant die, so it was all for nothing, but it was fun to see nonetheless.
lengthy review over, i’m giving this movie a 1/5. it’s not all bad, though! if i was rating this out of 10, i’d probably give it a 2/10 or a 3/10. some decent scenes, way outweighed by the bad.
