The film is one of the best satires on American capitalism since the original Wall Street. Roasmund Pike's Marla would get on well with Gordon Gekko. This thread gets lost during much of the third act of the film, which turns into a bad girl vs, bad guy exchange of creative movie violence. This movie is one that would have done better not to veer into action film territory. The last portion of the film almost recovers the satirical edge, before the writers and director commit a major error in literally the last minute that utterly undermines the movie's major point: that in American capitalism, criminal conduct wins and there is no accountability. Nevertheless, I Care a Lot is watchable for the fine performances of all of its principals, and, before it is thrown away at the very end, its cold look at the heart of our economic system.
