What this country needs is more rock music, more power chords, more loud screaming rock ‘n’ roll guitars, more powerful lyrics. This is what you get from Cats in Space. I hadn’t heard of this band until two months ago, but am I glad I have now? It’s so refreshing to be able to see and hear a genuine new rock band that has a sound all of its own; in these days of disposable and generally insipid bubble-gum pop it’s great to hear proper 4-beat to the bar rhythms, backed up by genuine musicians and vocalists.
I’ve just been to see their latest tour, Kickstart the Sun, and it’s awesome from start to finish. In true rock and roll style the set isn’t particularly polished, but it doesn’t have to be; the music speaks for itself. There were plenty of tracks from the new album, backed up with songs from Too Many Gods, Atlantis and Day Trip to Narnia.
I sincerely hope that they choose to play again in East Anglia, as I will be the first in the queue to get in.
