While I know that there will be a 4th and final season of this show, I was entertained and binged until I got through the three seasons currently out. While we can foreshadow what will happen with Elsa and Doug (of course they will stay together), Casey going to UCLA (probably will happen), some of the other characters still have some loose ends. What of Paige? What of Julia? I can't begin to wonder what would come with them.
Sam is obviously the main character and his ASD makes him by far the most unique, entertaining, and perhaps intriguing character. Good depiction. While some may find this annoying, I find it just the opposite. His storyline is also the best. I like the aspect of finding his way through life, growing up, girlfriends, college, friendships, and family.
I do think people will identify with a lot of the characters and their story. Doug (didn't go to college and was looked down upon), Elsa (was scrutinized for marrying Doug), and long-term relationships with its challenges. High school with its classism or cliques (money, popularity, bullying, etc) and the teenage struggle are part of life some will relate to. The college dropout in Paige and just the pressure of "making something of myself" is evident in Atypical. Growing up and making difficult life decisions seems to be a theme for the younger characters.
