You might think this series moves slowly, but if you stick with it past episode 2 you’ll appreciate the film noir style, the black and white cinematography that lends itself to the complete psychopathic character of Tom Ripley. His brilliance is evident in every scene, where the camera lingers on his face and without saying a word, you know exactly what he’s thinking. I enjoyed everything about this series, and you shouldn’t compare it to the Jude Law version. Watch it for its own story, which I think more closely resembles the novel than the earlier version.

This book went on for about 100 pages too long. The first half was a page turner but it really dragged on the second half. I found the courtroom scenes unbelievable and the legal aspects weren’t researched very well by the authors. It seemed like this book wanted to be too many things to its readers. It’s a book about domestic abuse, single motherhood, trans women, bee keeping, with a little lesbian parenting and racial commentary thrown in. LOL. I think it should’ve gone less on the lectures and liberal talking points, and more on the development of one cohesive theme.
