Big and honest review- Spoilers ahead.
Cute little game. I enjoyed it for the most part.
Was a little hard getting into it to start with- as the robots and pretty much anyone you talk to doesn’t actually talk. Just a little tech sound effect while they are speaking. And I get that they can’t actually talk like people- it was just something that made the game feel a bit boring personally. It was hard to connect on an emotional level during dialogue.
I loved all the cute little cat things you can do. Rubbing affectionately on a robot’s legs, sleeping somewhere comfy, scratching claws on surfaces, knocking things over, meowing.
The game would’ve benefited a lot more if it was more story focused, not so much inbetween of doing little side quests for people. And a lot of what progresses the game is doing stuff for others. I did love the musician robot though- you get really nice musical rewards for bringing back the music sheets.
The worlds were interesting, as much as I would have liked to see a bit more visual variety in them. Also more worlds, more chances to explore- would have loved that.
The game really should’ve had a minimap (in slums and midtown especially). Going back and forth doing those little things for others, I found myself getting lost a lot. There’s a little too much going on in the small areas and a lot of it starts to look the same. There were some directional signs up here and there but I found some of them a bit vague and misleading (as they will only point one way if you are e.g. going around a corner)
I found the Zurk levels to be a bit boring- just something I’d rather skip over.
And I honestly got worried that they were going to be a main part of the game.
Was expecting a boss level or something near the end- to make it feel a bit more like the ending was something earned. I’m honestly glad there wasn’t because I guess it would’ve been a bit cliche, but the little time it took to get to the end just felt like there was something missing.
Something that really annoyed me- after the end credits you do not get to explore the world further. Felt like such a waste after spending the whole game looking forward to when the world opened up.
As someone has said, our cat could have taken B-12 somewhere to get repaired- and to be able to talk to everyone about how they feel that things are returning to normal… but we did not get that.
Would have been nice in the end for our main cat to reunite with his/her cat friends.
The game is meant to be around 4 hours which seemed really short- but I made it last a little over a week, playing a bit here and there.
This game won’t be for everyone, but if you love cats like I do- absolutely give it a go.
